Image-to-text (OCR)
Any text in a photo can be read and stored as part of the data associated with that photo. This can include:
- Company logo’s
- Business cards
- Street signs
- Handwritten text
- Photos of full page documents
Up to 64k of text can be read and stored.
The text read is editable within DBGallery. NOTE: While the read text is editable, sending a photo for text recognition subsequent times will override edits.
This text is, of course, used when searching for images across DBGallery.
How to read text from images
As images are uploaded, text in images is automatically recognized when the . On the upload window be sure the image-to-text checkbox is selected.
Alternatively, in the main gallery, select one or more images and press the Image-to-text button.

This example demonstrates how a fair poor photo of a screen can be read quite accurately.
TIP: Making this data visible across DBGallery
While this data field, and all others, can be found in our Full Data View (FDV) tab in image preview, consider using Data Layout Settings in our Tools menu to place it in the Info tab and other areas of DBGallery. See Data Layout Settings for more on configuring which data is shown where.
Q&A
Q: Will this feature read contents of documents, such as PDFs?
A: No. It reads text from photos and graphics only.
